If the defendant, who is responsible for the auto accident, does not have insurance, then we generally look towards the Uninsured Motorist Carrier (UM) of the client. In those situations, the Uninsured Motor’s carrier would step in to the place of the defendant and provide coverage. We look to determine what the possible exposure of the Uninsured Motor’s carrier is, what their liability limits are, and what their policy limits are. In certain circumstances, you can look to the individual himself who’s responsible for the wreck for a personal contribution that would be put into any type of settlement or judgment.”
