3-Year-Old Girl Killed by Impaired Semi-Truck Driver

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

According to WSMV Nashville, a semi-truck driver has been charged with driving under the influence after crashing into a horse-drawn buggy and killing a 3-year-old girl in Hopkinsville, KY, on July 8, 2011.  Three adults were also riding in the buggy and sustained injuries.  Authorities reported the buggy followed safety protocol by putting its marker lights and warning triangles on.  At this time, the truck driver is believed to have been under the influence of prescription pills at the time of the crash.

In Tennessee, truck drivers must exercise caution while behind the wheel and follow certain safety precautions.  When a driver operates a semi-truck under the influence of drugs or alcohol, that driver may be considered negligent. If a loved one has been killed in an accident caused by a negligent driver, surviving family members may have a legal cause of action and could be entitled to compensation.  To learn how an experienced trucking accident attorney can assist in your case, call the Memphis trucking accident attorneys at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz today at 901-683-7000 or 1-800-LAW-4004.  Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz, also known as NST Law, has handled trucking accident cases in Tennessee for over twenty years and has the resources to prove another driver was at fault to help you recover maximum compensation for your loss.

In Tennessee, truck drivers must follow certain Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.  These rules expressly forbid driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana, prescription pills, or any other drug.  To prove a driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, NST Law may administer a drug test or consult with a toxicologist to interpret a drug test.  By proving a truck driver’s negligence, your NST lawyer can fight for you to recover maximum compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and lost wages.  Your NST lawyer may consult with medical experts to document medical bills incurred by the deceased, including surgeries, hospital charges, and medication costs.  Your NST lawyer can retain vocational economists to determine lost wages and compute future loss of income.
