According to the New Haven Register, a Connecticut jury recently awarded 14 million dollars ($14,000,000.00) to the victim of a 2005 car accident. Initially, the victim’s car was involved in a crash with a volunteer firefighter. The driver of the victim’s car then sped away, causing the firefighter to turn on his siren and lights and chase after him.  The victim’s lawyer argued the town’s radio dispatcher encouraged the firefighter to chase after the victim at a high speed when speaking to him on radio calls. During the chase, the driver of the victim’s car crashed into a tree. The victim, sitting in the front seat, was thrown from the car and suffered traumatic lifelong injuries. The jury found the town negligent and 90 percent responsible for the crash, awarding the victim the high-end estimate for his lifetime cost of care.
