According to the Dyersburg State Gazette, a Dyersburg High School student has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident for driving his Jeep into a crowd of people in the school parking lot.  The incident occurred after a baseball game between Dyersburg High School and Crockett County High School on April 7, 2011.  Right after the game, fans and spectators got into a shouting match, congregating in the parking lot. The Dyersburg student, leaving the school in his car, hit a 16-year-old Crockett County student and ran him over. A witness said the driver revved his engine and “went past the parking lot a little bit. He was gunning it still. He slowed down a little bit. Two girls jumped out [of the car] and he just kept going.”  The witness said the victim did not see the car coming.  After the incident, the driver left the scene of the crash and was later found by police near his home.  The victim was transported to the Regional Medical Center (The Med) in Memphis and is currently in critical condition.  In this accident, it is important to determine whether or not the actions of the driver were intentional, because insurance coverage may not apply if the driver meant to cause harm.
