According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, a 42-year-old man may face charges for his role in a recent fatal car accident. On September 17, 2011, the man was driving on U.S. Highway 25/70 in Tennessee when he approached a tractor from behind. To avoid crashing into the tractor, the man applied his brakes and swerved his vehicle into the other traffic lane, directly into the path of an oncoming Jeep. The Jeep crashed into the man’s vehicle, rolled down an embankment, and landed on its roof. The driver of the Jeep was killed, and four passengers in the Jeep, including three children, sustained injuries. The Tennessee Highway Patrol accident report alleged the 42-year-old man might have been under the influence of drugs. Police are awaiting the results of drug tests and indicate charges against the man are pending.
Fatal car accidents can bring about difficult times for surviving passengers and loved ones. In addition to the obvious pain of losing a loved one’s companionship, survivors must overcome other challenges. For example, surviving family members that were injured in the crash may incur medical bills themselves and could be forced to miss work. Surviving family members may have to find ways to replace the deceased’s lost income. Finally, family members may be responsible for medical bills incurred by the deceased between the crash and his death. If you have lost a loved one in a car wreck in Memphis, call Tennessee auto accident attorney Corey B. Trotz at 901-683-7000 or 1-800-LAW-4004 for a free initial consultation on your case. Corey B. Trotz practices law at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz (“NST Law”), the largest plaintiff’s personal injury law firm in Tennessee.

NST lawyers can consult with economic experts to document medical bills and compute lost wages. NST lawyers can retain psychiatric experts to determine the extent of pain and suffering you experience as a result of losing a mother, father, husband, wife, or other loved one. According to MarketWatch, Protext Mobility, Inc., a developer of mobile phone software and applications, has created DriveAlert, a cell phone application intended to reduce distracted driving. The application, now available for Android phone users, detects when the user is driving and automatically puts the cell phone in “DriveAlert” mode. DriveAlert then blocks incoming phone calls, text messages, and emails and sends an auto-reply message to those who send text messages. In case of an emergency, a driver can override the DriveAlert system to make calls and send messages. DriveAlert’s target audience is drivers under the age of 20 years old, the age group with the highest proportion of distracted drivers involved in fatal car crashes in the United States.
Drivers today have more distractions than ever. Typical distractions include car radios, CD players, and GPS devices. Now, drivers can use cell phones in their cars, which can serve as mobile computers. A driver can be tempted to use his smart phone to make calls, send text messages and emails, surf the Internet, or play a game. When a driver looks down at his cell phone, he is not paying full attention to the road. When a driver is distracted, he is more likely to be involved in a car accident. If you have been injured in a car accident caused by someone who was texting while driving, call the Tennessee auto accident attorneys at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz (“NST Law”) at 901-683-7000 or 1-800-LAW-4004.
No matter the severity of your injuries, NST Law can handle your case. Throughout the years, we have represented victims with paraplegia, quadriplegia, broken vertebrae, lost limbs, and brain trauma. NST lawyers have many resources at their disposal to prove your damages and suffering to a jury or judge. For example, NST Law can retain medical experts to document all medical bills incurred because of the car accident, including future physical therapy costs. NST Law can consult with vocational economists to project diminished earning capacity if your injuries prevent you from returning to your position at work. NST Law can also show a jury the crippling effects of a debilitating injury through a day-in-the-life video. Finally, NST Law can retain psychiatric specialists to determine the pain and suffering you experience as a result of the accident.

When most people think about car accidents, they think about the physical pain a victim can experience. However, a victim’s suffering usually extends beyond that pain. The Tennessee car accident attorneys at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz (“NST Law”) are mindful of the many ways a car crash victim can suffer. The recovery process from a catastrophic injury may include medical tests, surgeries, and physical therapy. Sometimes, a car accident victim cannot fully recover from injuries sustained in a crash. If you spend time in a hospital or will need future care, your NST lawyer can retain medical experts to document medical bills and project future costs. If you are unable to return to work at all or can only return to work in a limited capacity, your NST lawyer can consult with a vocational economist to compute lost wages. By taking your age, occupation, industry, and experience into account, this expert can forecast your diminished earning capacity. If you have suffered a permanent injury or disability, your NST lawyer may commission a day-in-the-life video that illustrates how debilitating injuries hinder your ability to perform routine tasks. This video shows a jury how your injuries affect your daily life. According to the New York Times, Syracuse, New York, and Hartford, Connecticut, have had success reducing distracted driving. Over the past 12 months, those cities have issued nearly 20,000 tickets for illegal use of a cell phone while driving, which includes texting while driving. In addition to stepping up law enforcement, the cities launched high-profile education campaigns that illustrate the dangers of distracted driving, such as wrongful death. The results have been noticeable, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (“NHTSA”). In Syracuse, handheld cell phone use and texting while driving have decreased 33%. In Hartford, handheld cell phone use has decreased 57% while texting has decreased 75%. NHTSA Secretary Ray LaHood said these results demonstrate that “strong laws, combined with highly visible police enforcement, can significantly reduce dangerous texting and cell phone use behind the wheel.”
Distracted driving is dangerous. In 2009, 20% of car crashes in the United States involved some form of distracted driving. As technology improves, it is natural for cell phone use to increase while driving. Drivers may use cell phones to talk, text, send e-mails, surf the Internet, or search for directions by GPS. If you have been hit by a distracted driver, call the Memphis auto accident attorneys at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz (“NST Law”) at 901-683-7000 or 1-800-LAW-4004. According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, a 36-year-old man was killed after being hit by a car on May 27, 2011, in Memphis, Tennessee. An 18-year-old male driver, attempting to pass a car on Walnut Bend Road, clipped the front end of another car. He lost control of his vehicle and ran over the deceased who was checking the mail in the driveway of his home. Police said the 18-year-old was driving at an “excessive speed.” Further, the police report noted the driver smelled of marijuana and looked impaired. He has been charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence (“DUI”), and reckless driving.
Many Memphians are injured and killed each year in drunk driving car accidents on streets such as Poplar Avenue, Walnut Grove Road, and Germantown Parkway.
