According to the Associated Press, an Arkansas man was killed when he was run over by a semitrailer in a bar parking lot near Fort Smith. On April 5, 2011, the driver exited the bar and attempted to drive home with his wife. Other bar patrons tried to prevent him from driving because they believed he was too intoxicated to drive and placed him in his wife’s semitrailer to calm him down. He found a spare key and then started the semitrailer. The victim tried to stop the man from driving by pulling the wires on the back of the cab. However, he was run over and killed. The driver has been charged with manslaughter.

According to CBS Boston, on February 20, 2011, a 17-year-old Massachusetts driver crossed the centerline of a street and collided head-on with a 55-year-old driver. The 55-year-old died March 10, 2011, as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, while the 17-year-old driver survived. Police say the surviving driver was text messaging at the time of the crash, violating Massachusetts’s ban on texting while driving.

According to the Chester Daily News, a Pennsylvania jury recently awarded 1.8 million dollars ($1,800,000.00) to a married couple as compensation for injuries suffered by the husband in a 2006 car accident. On April 16, 2006, the husband, an electrician, was a passenger in a van belonging to his company. The van’s driver was driving through an intersection when a GMC Sierra went through a red light and struck the car’s driver side. The husband injured his right elbow and shoulder, suffering extensive ligament damage. He attempted to return to work as an electrician, but as time went on, he became physically unable to work.  He could not lift weight of 5 pounds or more as a result of his elbow injury. The husband is currently a stay-at-home parent while his wife had to get a job as a nurse at a local hospital. The jury found the GMC driver negligent and liable for the crash.
