According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal, Senator Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Senator Mark Pryor of Arkansas have introduced a bill requiring commercial trucks to have on-board recording devices to ensure truck drivers comply with hours-of-service rules. The Commercial Driver Compliance Improvement Act would require commercial trucks to have tamper-free recording devices that identify each driver and his precise location at all times. Currently, drivers can only drive for 11 of every 14 on-duty hours.  Senator Alexander said existing regulations on hours are difficult to enforce since drivers keep manual logs. Alexander also said the electronic and neutral recording devices would save the government and truck drivers time, paper, and money.
