Memphis, Tennessee Ranked Seventh Most Dangerous City for Pedestrians According to Study

According to the Commercial Appeal, of the 54 largest metro areas in the United States, Memphis, Tennessee, was named the seventh most dangerous for pedestrians and walkers in a recent study released by Transportation for America in May 2011.  From 2000-2009, 266 pedestrians were killed in Memphis.  The study says that adding sidewalks and bike lanes, shortening crossing distances, and installing crosswalks are measures for increasing protection for pedestrians that cities should look into.

Although Memphis’ ranking in this study improved from fifth most dangerous in 2009, it is clear Memphis has room for more improvement.  During the warmer summer months, the number of pedestrians on Memphis and Shelby County streets such as Poplar Avenue increases.  More Memphians walk to work and walk for exercise.  As the number of pedestrians increases, it is important for drivers to be aware of and exercise caution around pedestrians.  If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian accident with a vehicle, call the Memphis pedestrian accident attorneys at Nahon, Saharovich, and Trotz (“NST Law”) at 901-683-7000 or 1-800-LAW-4004 for legal advice.  If a negligent driver caused your accident, you may be entitled to recover compensation for your injuries. To prove another driver’s negligence, NST Law can review the accident report, speak to witnesses, or speak to police officers that were at the scene of the crash.  NST lawyers also have knowledge of Tennessee driving and insurance laws and can apply them to the unique facts of your case to file a claim on your behalf.

For the damages portion of a claim, NST lawyers fight for clients to obtain maximum compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, permanent disability and lost wages.  NST lawyers may consult with doctors and specialists who can determine and prove the crash caused a pedestrian victim’s injuries or death. NST lawyers have years of experience interpreting medical data and speaking with medical experts.  NST lawyers can also retain medical and economic experts to document current and future medical bills, such as surgeries, physical therapy, CT scans, X-rays, and other medical procedures.  If a pedestrian accident forces a victim to miss work or affects a victim’s ability to fully perform his or her job, NST lawyers can retain a vocational economist to compute lost wages and future diminished earning potential.  Since lost wages and medical bills can be burdensome and stressful, NST lawyers fight for victims to recover damages for the pain and suffering they experience as a result of the crash.
